Freelance marketplace: Stripe Connect split payments in 14 days

The situation

• The founder had built a working freelance marketplace on Bolt. Real clients, real freelancers, real projects.
• $40K in monthly transaction volume being processed manually, the founder was literally handling payments via bank transfers, tracking them in a spreadsheet, and manually splitting platform fees. It was working, but it wasn't scalable past $50K/month and it was an accounting nightmare.
• Bolt's AI kept generating broken Stripe Connect code, partial implementations that didn't handle vendor onboarding, couldn't split payments across multiple freelancers, and had no webhook infrastructure for handling failed transfers. Three freelancers had already left the platform citing late or incorrect payments.

• Automated dispute management with evidence submission workflow
• Historical payment reconciliation, corrected $3,200 in underpayments

The result

• The marketplace now processes $40K/month with zero manual intervention. The three freelancers who had left returned within 60 days of launch.
• By month 3, GMV had grown to $78K/month, the founder attributes the growth directly to payment reliability. Platform net revenue (fees) increased from $3,200 to $6,240/month.
